The Free Experience: Barely Usable
Official specs say free accounts are capped at 100 KB/s. In my test — incognito browser, 767 MB file — the download hovered around 461 KB/s. Technically better than advertised, but still a nearly 30-minute wait for a file under 1 GB.
Worse, free accounts don’t work with download managers, there’s no resume support if your connection drops, and inactive files are deleted after 3 to 30 days.
Premium Account Speed Test
Paying for Premium is a different story. Uploady advertises up to 65 MB/s, no captchas, and no forced delays. Here’s what I actually got on my home fiber connection:
Browser: Single File Download
A 1.1 GB file downloaded at a steady 16.5 MB/s, with no plugins and no special setup.
Browser: Two Downloads at Once
Running two downloads simultaneously, the files hit 13.4 MB/s and 14.5 MB/s — about 28 MB/s combined, with bandwidth split fairly between the two.
The JDownloader Test (Recommended)
If you download files often, JDownloader is worth setting up. Uploady officially supports download managers, including resume support.
I queued four large files at once. Total throughput reached 42.14 MiB/s, split across the four tasks (7.54, 11.77, 12.52, and 10.31 MiB/s). When my connection dropped mid-download, it picked back up from where it stopped.
One caveat: I tested on a home fiber connection. Uploady claims up to 65 MB/s, but you won’t see that unless your own line can handle it. Your results depend on your ISP and how far you are from their servers.
Verdict: Is It Worth the Money?
If you download a file once in a while, the free tier is tolerable. If you move large files regularly, Premium plus JDownloader is worth the money — a steady 30 MB/s with no waiting will save you hours over the course of a month.
